My garden became a canvas of vibrant colours and intricate shapes, inspiring me to find a way to immortalise their beauty. About my work: In my three artworks for this exhibition, I seek to capture the essence of this lifelong connection to nature, translating the delicate details and colours onto silk and fabric. DENISE MERCER: Born in England and immigrated to Australia at 13. At the ripe of age of 21yrs, I married an Aussie and travelled throughout Australia. I started painting with the Flying Art School and eventually turned to pottery as a way of making plates to paint on. Things got a little out of hand and I ended up doing more pottery than painting. I hope you gain as much enjoyment from my pottery as I had making it. About my work I love creating my pottery and derive my ideas from my experience in the bush and find that it is popular not only with locals but also with overseas visitors. ELAINE OUSTON
Art has been a huge part of my life. As a graphic artist I worked in the advertising industry illustrating many interesting things – from furniture to airplanes – illustrated for and designed book covers, brochures, etc. About my work: Lately I have tried my hand at the new craze, fluid art with acrylics. This loose style is a different form of art from the precision of my former career of illustrating. However, I am enjoying the many challenges that come with it and, while still trying to create a recognisable form, I’m loving the freedom of expression it gives me. I have also transferred the images I’m creating onto useful items for personal or household products. ARTWORK: Golden Flowers Ladies Purse (original art print) www.elainejouston.com |
EMILIE METCALFE
I have always had a love of Art, I have always been passionate about nature and the diversity it offers. Having lived on a property for 30 years has taught me to appreciate the small things in life and the love of animals. My main passion is drawing animals and capturing their characters – whether it is a lion demonstrating his superior dominance as a leader or a lioness with her piercing eyes – ready for the hunt, or the Northern Cardinal – with his brilliant red feathers. I just love the Elephants with their aged and wrinkled skin (like something prehistoric), the bears with their wonderful fur, and the apes with their sad eyes. About my work Art has given me the opportunity to express myself in my drawings. I find that when I am doing any form of Art I am totally absorbed in the subject and feel as though a part of me is translated into my work. I have been painting with Watercolour for the last 12months and absolutely love this medium. This is my preferred medium but I will always still use colour pencils and pastels. I have recently started drawing landscapes, seascapes and flowers. COLOUR PENCIL: Blue Heron - Autumn WATER COLOUR: Peony |

KRISTINE LANYON
Born in Rockhampton and always loved the arts, reading, painting, photography, pottery, sewing and screen printing fabric. I attended several workshops over the decades and intermittently produced drawings and paintings with long gaps in between. The workshops were always inspirational and educational but a working and family life took precedence. Retiring from the workforce was a window to freedom and spreading acrylic paint over the stretched canvas one of the best things in life. Photography was a joyful pleasure and I have a vast collection of images that are waiting to be transferred onto a canvas. About my work I love to paint the light in the trees, twisted branches, ocean water, sky breaking through leaves, pathways, blue in all shades, powerful reds, strong oranges and all shades of green. PAINTINGS: Roses The Reader |
LYN WHITE I have always been drawn from a young age to painting and the arts. The Walter Reid Centre was a hub of creativity when I arrived in Rockhampton and lead me to pottery lessons while my children were young. This has become a lifetime passion and my rural address is a perfect background for pursuing this creative lifestyle. My association with the Paint Pot Gallery has been long and supportive for my pottery passion. About my work: I love earthy tones and magical designs that stir thought and feeling. An interest in art has always been part of my life and I was one of those kids who couldn’t stay within the lines when colouring in. Raised in South East Queensland surrounded by forests and farmland inspired many scenes in my early drawings. Work brought me to Central Queensland where I met my husband. I was a member with the RQAS when living in Rockhampton but after moving to Yeppoon, I joined the Capricorn Coast Society of Arts and have enjoyed the privilege of displaying my work in the Paint Pot Gallery. About my work I love trying to capture the variation of colours in seascapes and landscapes as no 2 days are ever the same. Rocks and water make a regular appearance in my work or inclusion of that track that leads somewhere. Although having used oils, water colour and pastels, I now mainly use acrylic paints. I hope my work makes you smile. PAINTINGS: Moonlight Over The Bay First Light @ Kemp Beach |
