FOR THE LOVE OF NATURE - A Unique Botanical Journal with Peta Lloyd     
A One Day Course 
for people 15 years and older from 9:30 am to 4pm with a 30 min refreshment break included at the Artist’s discretion.
Saturday 9th January 2021

Enrolment Fee: $80 all materials will be provided                                         
NB:  BYO Refreshments, with tea and coffee provided. A refrigerator will be available.
Create a one of a kind journal using images from the natural world, stencils, text, and collage containing the colours, shapes and motifs that reflect your experience of the natural environment. A selection of papers such as: watercolor paper, rice & Hosho papers, found papers, fabric, kraft & patterned papers will be used for your journal pages which will be organised into a stunning pamphlet stitch journal with hard covers. You will learn a variety of techniques to create your botanical journal:
• creating unique stencils to create monoprints using a mini press • using found text for poetry/storytelling • Creating layers with paper, fabric and hand stitch
• Altering hard copy photographs by hand (not by computer) • use repurposed hardcovers from unwanted books as your cover​.

GIVE IT A CRACK! Glass fusing with Shelley Engwirda
A One Day Course for people 15 years and older from 9:30 am to 4pm with a 30 min refreshment break included at the Artist’s discretion.
Sunday 17th January 2021.  
Enrolment fee: $100 all materials provided

 This one day glass fusing course is designed to give total beginners an introduction to the skills needed to create a fish suncatcher and a small piece of jewelry.
 During the class, participants will gain an understanding of glass fusing and slumping and acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to fuse glass. Everything required to create your piece of work is provided. Participants must wear closed-in shoes (e.g. no sandals/ crocs). Tools and safety glasses will be provided. B

WATERCOLOURS AT WORK with Elena Churilova

This watercolour painting workshop will give participants a firm grounding in the techniques for using watercolours in a relaxed and inspiring environment.
You will learn how to keep watercolours transparent and light, practice painting in a loose style that does not require a lot of detail.

You will learn the anatomy of a basket, how to lash the spokes, how to choose fibre for basket making and a basket weave technique using found and foraged materials which include sea grass, cane, fig roots & banana fibre. You are welcome to bring along any fabric, string, wool or feathers etc which can be added to your basket for textural effects. We will make one round basket on the day.

 CONTEMPORARY MOSAIC with Barbara Tamassy
A Short Course of 6 classes

The 6000-year tradition of Mosaics has undergone many changes in style and medium over the centuries. In this course you will create your own Mosaic Art piece using contemporary mosaics and a variety of materials. Over the 6 weeks you will be introduced to the History of Mosaics, tools and materials and experiment with various mediums.  Suitable for beginners to those with some experience in mosaics.

PAINTING WITH OILS Made Easy with Coral Morris
A Two Day Course for people 15 years and older from 9:30 am to 4pm with a 30 min refreshment break included at the Artist’s discretion. 
Sat & Sun 6th & 7th March 2021. 
​Enrolment Fee: $150 - all materials provided
                                                   NB: BYO Refreshments, with tea and coffee provided. A refrigerator will be available.​
Suitable for beginners to intermediate students: Using the 3 primary colours and 3 earth colours plus white, you will learn by observation the steps to create a Landscape, then, work the image onto canvas with instruction and help as required. Taking notes will be encouraged and educational notes will also be given to for you to work with and to take home.  You will learn some of the Principles of Design such as colour harmony, atmospheric & visual perspective & how to mix a successful full colour range palette from just 3 primaries plus white, to become  36 different colours and tones. 
​A complete painting will be achieved by the end of workshop.

A SENSE OF PLACE  Making your Mark with Peta Lloyd
A One Day Course 
for people 15 years and older from 9:30 am to 4pm with a 30 min refreshment break included at the Artist’s discretion.
Saturday 27th March 2021.

This one-day workshop explores the joy and freedom of experimental mark making using both non-traditional and traditional mark making tools.  You will play with inks, gesso, collage, found objects and stitch to build up layers of meaning within your concertina and sample pieces. Using your five senses you will be guided to explore the nearby environment through the collecting of images, words, sounds, text and objects both natural and manmade. Learn how to create beautiful handmade brushes and Cola pens.  Use your brushes and pens to create a handful of sample works, including small collages and hand stitched pieces and a concertina fold book.  These experimental pieces may become jumping off points for further investigation and experimentation within your arts practice.  This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and advanced artists wanting a day of play and experimentation.

LEATHER BELT MAKING with Robert Read
A One Day Course 
for people 15 years and older from 9:30 am to 4pm with a 30 min refreshment break included at the Artist’s discretion.
Sunday 11th April 2021.

In this hands-on workshop, local leather artisan Robert Read will take you through the basics of creating a leather belt. At the end of the day, you will have completed your own 38mm full grain leather belt that will only get better with age, developing a deep, luxurious patina as only leather can. From selecting the right piece of leather, to what hardware and tools you need, to getting the perfect measurements, you will learn everything you need to know for crafting handmade leather belts. You will try your hand at punching holes in leather, burnishing edges, and setting rivets. This workshop includes full-grain leather in your choice of brown or black, a half buckle, finishes, materials and use of tools.
No previous experience is required.​

CHINESE PAINTING with Lucy Lu
A 6 week Short Course for people 15 years and older, run weekly on Friday evenings, 6pm to 8pm or 9pm.
Friday 30th April to Friday 4th June 2021. 
Enrolment Fee: $150 - all materials provided

In this beautiful workshop you will learn two types of Chinese painting techniques -- Gongbi (meaning "meticulous", uses highly detailed brushstrokes that delimit details very precisely) and Ink and wash painting (loosely termed watercolour or brush painting). Using soft brushes, ink and a variety of paper types you will paint bamboo and flowers like the lotus or an orchid. Beginners welcome

Bill Gannon will introduce the wonderful world of putting lines and tones on paper with pencils and pens. He will introduce materials and demonstrate techniques for drawing people, landscapes and buildings. Weather permitting he will assist you with some outdoor sketching of the Fig Tree Gallery and surrounds. Weather not permitting, you will draw some set pieces in the workshop space. ​Beginners very welcome.

In this creative hands-on workshop, you will begin by making your own calligraphy pen from a variety of provided repurposed materials. Then you will use watercolours with your chosen pen to bring your ideas to life! WILDFLOWER PAINTING WITH COLD WAX with Ainslie McMahon 
A One Day Course for people aged 15 years and older from 9:30 am to 4pm with a 30 min refreshment break included at the Artist’s discretion.

Using layered cold wax painting techniques, learn how to create a lush wildflower painting.  Participants will learn how to make a cold wax medium and apply the medium in a painting to develop colour and texture. Surfaces will be scratched and scraped into to create a rich surface. Beginners welcome.

Visual Storytelling Workshop Weekend with Kristin Hannaford in partnership with Capricorn Coast Writers Festival

The workshops will be run in 2 parts of 3 hours each, over 2 days.
Saturday 12th June and Sunday 13th June 2021 (*time to be confirmed)

Enrolment Fee: $40 per session (*participants are encouraged to attend both workshops)

Workshop 1 - Ekphrasis: Writing poetry in response to Art
3 hour workshop:
Ekphrasis is a Greek word to describe poetry written in response to art. In this workshop writers of all abilities will create poetry in response to a range of art works. Writers will learn about the history and evolution of ekphrasis and explore some famous (and not so famous) examples of ekphrasis in literature.
You will learn about the important relationship between image and word and explore a variety of creative methods to engage with art.

Workshop 2 - Sounding Wild: Writing about nature using sound as an entry point
3 hour workshop:
This workshop anchors writers in the natural environment and will introduce writer's to the role sound can play in unveiling place. It encourages writers to experience and perceive the environment through the senses and to consider the ecology of a place.
What are the local species? What story do they tell? How do sounds reveal our relationships between landscape, humans, and other species?
Writers will bring to life the natural world.
