TONY BACKHOUSE WILL RETURN TO YEPPOON 26 & 27 APRIL 2025
TICKETS ARE LIMITED - BOOK NOW
Tony Backhouse is a singer, musician and composer, a key player in the Australasian a cappella movement. He played in New Zealand bands such as the Crocodiles, and formed Australian a cappella groups, the Elevators, the Cafe of the Gate of Salvation, the Honeybees and the Heavenly Lights. In NZ, he formed the Napier Gospel Choir. Currently he lives in Sydney and works as a singer, composer, author and workshop leader, in the areas of vocal arranging and gospel music. He composes and arranges mainly for a cappella choirs, always with an ear to vernacular traditions – contemporary funk, African choirs, gospel – and to anything polyphonic. Works that typify his style are Jubilation and (I've Been Given) Two Wing as sung by the Café of the Gate of Salvation.

2018 Gospel Choir Tony Backhouse Workshop |
SING FOR CAPRICORNWe are people from the community who love to sing. There is no audition, no need to read music. Our emphasis is on fun and enjoyment of the music and each other while seeking to develop an understanding of the music and add skill in our delivery.
History:
We are a community access choir that began life in March 2015 just after cyclone Marcia. Beginning with 4 members we have grown under the encouragement and musical direction of Jakki King to over 65 people, as the Capricorn Gospel Choir. We have performed at Carols by the Beach, Festival of the winds, Village Festival, nursing home and most notably flashmob with Santa at Keppel Plaza (3 times so far).
